The Nobel Women’s Initiative is following with grave concern the horrific events over the past months in the Republic of Yemen. The country has gone from bad to worse, with high levels of violence affecting an increasing number of civilians—including large numbers women and children.
We call for an immediate end to hostilities by all parties to the conflict and condemn the targeting of civilians. We call upon the warring parties to abide by humanitarian law and to protect civilians, particularly women and children, from the scourge of war. We also call on the international community to provide immediate humanitarian relief to the population, now in desperate need of food, water and medicine.
The Nobel Women’s Initiative is supporting the Yemeni people’s demand for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of armed militias from all occupied territory in Yemen. We call for a nonviolent solution and return to negotiations to restore the fledgling democracy, as well as a return to a national dialogue process—followed by elections under the new Constitution.
